Rabat – Morocco’s weather office forecasts a new heatwave, as well as thunderstorms and strong winds, to hit several provinces across the country from Friday through Saturday.
The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) forecasts thunderstorms producing between 20 and 30 millimeters of rainfall, accompanied by wind and hail, in the provinces of Al Haouz, Azilal, Khemisset, Kelaat Sraghna, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Meknes, El Hajeb, and Ouarzazate.
The weather will affect the aforementioned regions today from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m., alongside Taroudant and Zagora.
As for the heatwave today and Saturday, temperatures are expected to range between 45 and 48 degrees Celsius in the provinces of Aousserd, Oued Eddahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Smara, and Tata.
Temperatures ranging between 42 and 45 degrees will affect Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Ouezzane, and Fquih Ben Salah on Friday.
Inland areas of the provinces of Laayoune, Tan-Tan, and Guelmim will experience similar conditions.
Morocco has been experiencing hot weather, which is typical during the summer season, with some weeks being mild and others more intense.
Recent weeks have been particularly hot in Rabat.
Weather apps forecast cooler conditions in the coming days, with temperatures next week expected to range from lows of 19 to 20 degrees Celsius to highs of 27 to 28 degrees Celsius in Rabat and surrounding areas.
At the end of June and early July, Morocco witnessed a period of high temperatures, prompting a statement from the Health Ministry urging people, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, to reduce outdoor activity.
The ministry also advised people to wear light clothing and stay hydrated.
