Rabat – The Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said that his country and Morocco are experiencing the most robust diplomatic relationship in their shared history.
Albares made the bold statement on Tuesday before the Spanish Senate, noting Morocco and Spain have made a significant turning point in their bilateral relations.
The Spanish chief diplomat recalled the landmark Joint Declaration of April 2022, following discussions between King Mohammed VI and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
This diplomatic milestone, he explained, “has ushered in an era of unprecedented cooperation between the two nations,” transforming their longstanding relationship and elevating it to new heights of strategic partnership.
Economic indicators play up the depth of this renewed connection. Albares said that bilateral trade has increased to approximately 25 billion euros, indicating a growing economic synergy between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the Spanish diplomat detailed that more than 15,000 Spanish companies now regularly export to Morocco, with an additional 660 firms establishing a direct presence within Moroccan territories — a testament to Morocco’s business environment’s increasing economic attractiveness and reliability.
Speaking of the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted with Spain and Portugal, Albares said this global tournament is more than just a sporting event. He further added that it will provide a unique opportunity to advance the friendship and strategic partnership between Morocco and Spain.

Migration management has emerged as another critical area of collaboration between the two countries.
The Spanish foreign minister acknowledged the North African country’s crucial role in handling irregular migration, saying it would be “unmanageable” without Morocco’s support and commitment.
