- Rabat– According to astronomical calculations, Eid Al Fitr 2025 is expected to fall on March 31, signaling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that the moon will be visible on March 30, making the sighting likely.
“The likelihood of moon sighting on Mar. 30, 2025 in Pakistan is very bright,” the Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) said in a statement.
“Consequently, Ramadan is expected to complete 29 days, and the first day of Eid Al Fitr will likely be observed on Mar. 31, 2025.”
However, the official date will be confirmed by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee based on moon sighting reports from across the country.
Eid Al Fitr, also known as the festival for breaking the fast, is one of the most significant Islamic celebrations for Muslims in Pakistan and worldwide. The day begins with special prayers held at mosques and open grounds (Mossalah), followed by family gatherings, feasts, and acts of charity.
A key tradition of Eid in Pakistan is the distribution of “Fitrana” (Zakat Al Fitr) – a mandatory charity given before the Eid prayer to assist those in need.
Families also prepare traditional sweets like “sheer Khurma”, a vermicelli dessert cooked with milk and dates, while children receive “Eidi” — cash gifts from elders.
In major cities across Pakistan, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, vibrant celebrations take place, with streets illuminated, markets bustling with shoppers, and special cultural programs broadcasted on television.
The three-day holiday provides an opportunity for people to visit relatives, exchange greetings, and strengthen communal ties.
With Eid Al Fitr expected to fall on March 31, Pakistanis eagerly await the official announcement, ready to embrace the festive spirit after a month of fasting, prayer, and devotion.
