Rabat  – King Mohammed VI appointed today several figures to key national institutions, while renewing the appointment of Amina Bouayach as President of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH).

A statement from the royal cabinet confirmed today’s appointments.

In recognition of her leadership, the monarch appointed Bouayach as president of CNDH in 2018. She served in global human rights organizations, including as Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights.

Bouayach was recently elected as the President of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights (GANHRI) by unanimous vote, reflecting her commitment towards promoting human rights.

King Mohammed VI also appointed Rahma Bourqia as President of the Higher Council for Education, Training, and Scientific Research.

Bourqia was born in 1949 in Khemisset, and she is a resident member of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco.

She previously served as Director of the National Evaluation Body within the Higher Council for Education.

Bourqia has a Ph.D in Sociology and she is a professor at Mohammed V University in Rabat. She was the first woman to preside over the Hassan II University in Mohammedia as well as the first female member of the Academy of the Kingdom.

The monarch also appointed Mohammed El Habib Belkouch as Interministerial delegate for human rights.

Belkouch, born in 1954 in El Jadida,is a former member of the CNDH. He is also the president of the Center for Human Rights Studies and Democracy and a human rights consultant for various national and international institutions.

He held several key positions, including serving as a consultant expert to the Minister of Human Rights and as Director of the Documentation, as well as Director of the Migration Program.

“These royal appointments reflect his majesty’s commitment to equipping key national institutions with expertise and leadership to advance their constitutional missions,” the statement said, noting that this decision reflects the central role these institutions play at the national and international scales.

The statement further underlined how similar appointments are in line with the King’s dedication to the reform of national education and training systems, as they form part of the country’s priority.
