Rabat — Many countries have announced Sunday as Eid Al Fitr 2025, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and UAE.

Countries like Saudi Arabia sent their religious delegations to sight the crescent moon for the month of Shawwal today, and therefore confirmed that Eid Al Fitr will be on March 30.

However, other countries like Egypt did not spot the moon, which means that Eid will be on March 31 – also marking the start of  Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar.

The beginning of the month of Shawwal marks the end of Ramadan, when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset for 29 or 30 days, depending on the lunar calendar.

Morocco has yet to announce the date of Eid Al Fitr after the crescent moon sighting.

Ramadan in Morocco started on March 2. The majority of other countries, especially across the Middle East, celebrated the first day of Ramadan on March 1.

Muslims across the world start the Eid Al Fitr celebrations by going to the mosque in the morning to perform the Eid Al Fitr prayers.

Following the prayers, Muslims gather around the morning breakfast for the first time in a month of fasting.

Sweets are the centerpiece of meals served during this special morning iftar. In Morocco, this includes flat bread like msmen and “malawi” as well as “baghrir” (Moroccan pancakes). This is a special occasion as it’s the first time fasting Muslims can eat during the daytime with family and friends.

In addition to food, Muslims, particularly children, celebrate the feast in a unique way by wearing new clothes. In Morocco, children are adorned with new kaftans, djellabas for the girls and gandouras or djellabas for the boys.
