Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi recently shared his heartfelt aspirations of achieving a major victory with the Moroccan national team, saying that winning the World Cup with Morocco would surpass any other achievement in his career.
In an interview published on Thursday, April 3, by the website and YouTube Channel Footballer Fits, Hakimi expressed his long-standing ambition to secure the title with the Atlas Lions, despite Paris Saint-Germain’s potential historic triple win this season being highly significant.
The 26-year-old player shared his ambitions of securing a major title with the national team, saying: “I think it would be great to win everything with Paris. But with Morocco, the feeling is different—the World Cup doesn’t happen every year, so I would prefer to win something with Morocco, like the World Cup.”
Despite Morocco’s historic run to fourth place in the 2022 World Cup, an unprecedented achievement for an African nation, Hakimi, who began his journey with the Atlas Lions at just 17 years old in 2016, made it clear that he is not satisfied with merely participating.
Born in Madrid to Moroccan parents, Hakimi has become a key player for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) since joining the French club in 2021 from Italy’s Inter Milan. While PSG is on the verge of retaining the French league title, they are also set to play the French Cup final against Reims and face Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Hakimi also revealed that his closest friends in football are Moroccan goalkeeper Munir Mohamedi and French striker Kylian Mbappé—now with Real Madrid—where Hakimi first launched his professional career.
The latest FIFA World Rankings, published on April 2, revealed that Morocco’s Atlas Lions placed as the 12th-ranked team worldwide, climbing two places following recent successful international matches.
