Rabat – AC Milan and Luka Modric have reportedly reached a verbal agreement on a free-transfer move that will take effect after the FIFA Club World Cup.
The 39-year-old will sign a one-year contract worth $.3.5 million, with an option to extend the deal until June 2027 and a $6 million signing bonus, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano
Modric and Milan agreed not to formalize the move until Real Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign in the United States ends in mid-July. The Croatian player will travel to Milan immediately afterwards for medical checks and contract signing.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner joined Real Madrid in 2012. Since then, he has played almost 600 matches and helped the team lift 28 major trophies, making him the most decorated player in Real Madrid history.
In his 13 years at Real Madrid, he played 591 matches, scoring 43 goals and providing 95 assists. He was a key player in the club’s European dominance, winning six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns.
He played 57 matches, stepped up during Real Madrid’s midfield injury crisis, and delivered in key moments. He recorded four goals and nine assists, averaging one attacking contribution every 220 minutes.
New head coach Massimiliano Allegri sees Modric as the key playmaker in a 4-3-3, connecting midfield to Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic while guiding young midfielders.
Modric will become the 10th Real Madrid player to join AC Milan. He will continue competing at the highest level in European football.
