Rabat – King Mohammed VI emphasized the strength of ties between Morocco and France in a new message to President Emmanuel Macron.
The message is a congratulatory letter to Macron on France’s National Day.
In the message, the monarch extended his congratulations to the French president, expressing his best wishes and prosperity for France and the French people.
“Having expressed the wish to build a future based on solidarity, our two countries are today working, as they have at every decisive stage in their shared history, to redefine the course of their cooperation to better meet the demands of the moment,” the King wrote.
He said that the strengthened exceptional relationship is a testament to the joint intent between Rabat and Paris to further boost their long-term strategic ties.
Morocco and France opened a new chapter of cooperation last year during President Macron’s visit to the North African country.
Ahead of the state visit in October, France announced its newfound position, recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.
Macron renewed his support for Morocco’s position during his State visit, which also marked the signing of 22 agreements spanning multiple sectors from transport and energy to cultural cooperation.
According to the French government, Morocco is France’s 19th-largest trading partner, and ranks as the European country’s 17th largest customer and 39th in terms of trade deficit.
“Morocco accounts for 1.140% of France’s global exports,” the government added.
Within the MENA region, Morocco is France’s top customer and top supplier and seventh in terms of trade deficit, representing 20.2% of France’s exports in the region.
