Rabat – His Majesty King Mohammed VI has sent a message of condolences and compassion to the family of the late Abdellah Azmani.
In this message, the Sovereign said that He learned with deep emotion of the passing of Abdellah Azmani, may God embrace him in His holy mercy.
In this time of sorrow, His Majesty the King expresses to the members of the deceased’s family, and through them to his loved ones and political family, His heartfelt condolences and sincere compassion, recalling with esteem the human qualities of the late Abdellah Azmani, his expertise, and the high level of professional competence he demonstrated in the various important positions he held, as well as his unwavering commitment to the Nation’s core values and sacred foundations.
The Sovereign prays to the Almighty to welcome the departed into His vast paradise in reward for his noble deeds, and to grant his family patience and solace.
“And give glad tidings to those who patiently endure, who, when disaster strikes them, say, ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.’ It is they upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is they who are rightly guided.” True is the Word of God.
Abdellah Azmani was one of the notable political figures who shaped an important era in Morocco’s political and administrative history. Born in the 1940s in the Tanalat region of the Chtouka Aït Baha province, he began his professional career at the Ministry of Finance in 1964 after earning a degree in political economy.
Azmani served as Minister of Industry and Trade from 1987 to 1992. In 1993, he was elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Constitutional Union party. Later, in 1995, he was appointed Minister of Cultural Affairs in the government of Abdelatif Filali, a position he held until August 1997.
In 2000, Azmani was named Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Arab Emirates, where he continued to represent Moroccan diplomacy before returning to local political life.
In July 2006, Abdellah Azmani founded the Moroccan Union for Democracy party, which he led until 2012.
