Rabat – Morocco’s head coach Tarik Sektioui said he wants his squad to maintain the same mentality and tactical discipline throughout the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
In a post-match conference on Sunday, Sketioui expressed pride in his squad’s performance after Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Angola in their campaign opener.
Acknowledging the game was intense and challenging, Sektioui said that his players managed to make the difference and secure their first three points.
“We are very pleased to have won this opening match. It’s an important victory that sets us on the right path toward more positive results with confidence and determination,” the head coach said.
Commenting on Angola, Sketioui described Sunday’s rival as a fast and decisive team that has a solid defense.
Now, as Morocco prepares to face Kenya on August 10, Sketioui wants the national team to approach the game with the same mentality, aggression, and discipline.
Team captain Rabie Hrimat secured his first Man of the Match recognition following the game.
“It’s a great way to start CHAN, and we’re determined to keep this rhythm going,” he said, adding that the squad is made up of the best players from the national league.
“We’re ready to face the other teams, thanks to strong preparation both in Morocco and here in Kenya,” the Moroccan player said, adding that the squad’s goal is to win the title.
Morocco and Kenya are leading Group A with three points each.
They are part of Group A, alongside Zambia, DR Congo, and Angola.
