Guinea opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Niger, Mohamed Bangoura scoring the decisive goal. The result extended their unbeaten run in regular time at CHAN to eight matches. Head coach Souleymane Camara, however, warned against complacency.
“Just because we’re facing a team that lost their first match doesn’t mean it will be easy. It’s going to be tough. They’ll come at us, and we’ll need to apply the best strategies to counter the support from their home fans,” he said. “We must stay focused. Our objective is clear: we want the three points.”
Camara said his squad is physically ready and mentally strong, adding that the win against Niger carried special significance following their pre-tournament camp at a military base.
Uganda began with a 3-0 defeat to Algeria, leaving them bottom of the group. Head coach Morley Byekwaso urged his players to move on from the loss.
“I prefer not to talk about the past but to focus on what lies ahead. We know it’ll be a difficult game. We need to win to keep our hopes alive,” he said. “When you’re humiliated, it’s painful, but that’s part of football. I believe our fans will be with us tomorrow.”
Goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa stressed that the team is up for it. “We know the pressure is real, but the team is united and determined to win.”
A Guinea win would secure early qualification, while Uganda need a victory to avoid early elimination. Midfielder Ibrahima Sory Sankhon acknowledged the challenge. “We know tomorrow won’t be easy. They’ll have their fans behind them… We’re mentally and physically ready to face every challenge.”

Guinea are organised and unbeaten in eight CHAN matches, while Uganda looked shaky against Algeria. Hosts may press early, but Guinea’s structure and counterattacks should be enough to nick it.
