Rabat — A shooter targeted a Catholic school in south Minneapolis today, killing two children aged 8 and 10, and injuring 20 others before also reportedly shooting and killing himself at the scene.

This happened just two days after classes resumed at Annunciation Catholic School, a private elementary institution linked to Annunciation Catholic Church in a residential Minnesota neighborhood.

Local media reported that children were attending morning mass when the gunfire began.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara told reporters that the shooting involves “one suspect, a sole shooter … in his early 20s,” adding that he “does not have an extensive known criminal history.”

The police are investigating “information left behind to try and determine some type of motive,” he added.

The police chief described the shooting as “a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshipping.”

Police in nearby Richfield said witnesses described a man dressed in black carrying a rifle at the scene, providing no details about his identity or origins.

Television footage showed parents rushing to the school, dodging police tape, and taking away their children — dressed in green polo shirts and blue uniforms — from the campus.

Authorities said a news conference would be held mid-morning.

US President Donald Trump said on social media that he learned about the incident and that the FBI was on the ground, urging Americans to pray for the victims.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said her department was coordinating with local officials and monitoring the situation.

The tragedy comes amid a mess of violence in Minneapolis.

Since Tuesday afternoon, police have responded to three separate shootings across the US city that left three people dead and seven others wounded.
