Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will act as the official airline of the 36th Sao Paulo Biennale, Latin America’s leading contemporary art event, taking place from September 6, to January 11.
The airline’s office in Brazil described the partnership as a first-of-its-kind collaboration that positions RAM as a bridge between Africa, Brazil, and other countries of the Global South.
Since resuming flights to Brazil eight months ago, RAM will transport artists and their works to the exhibition, while also supporting the event’s complex logistics.
The 2025 Biennale, under the slogan “Not all travelers follow the roads – Humanity as practice,” brings together artists from across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. It offers a global perspective while emphasizing connections among countries of the South.
Transporting artworks to Brazil requires extensive logistical infrastructure, expertise, and a strong international air network.
RAM’s regular flights between Sao Paulo and Casablanca, combined with its connections to more than 90 destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America, provide a reliable solution.
Some African participants will travel via Casablanca, ensuring smooth and efficient international transport for artists and their works.
‘Brazil is strategic’
Othman Baba, RAM’s regional director for South America, said the partnership demonstrates the airline’s intention to create links between Brazil, Morocco, and the wider world.
“Art has the power to connect people and territories, and we provide the means to make these encounters possible. Brazil is strategic for our airline, and this collaboration represents a significant step in our South-South integration as a transnational carrier,” he said in a press statement.
The airline’s support of the Biennale aligns with its long-standing involvement in cultural events such as cinema, music, and contemporary art festivals.
Baba noted Morocco’s multicultural heritage and the opportunity to bring internationally recognized African talents from countries like Ghana, Senegal, and Ivory Coast to Brazil, reinforcing cooperation between Southern nations.
Andrea Pinheiro, president of the Sao Paulo Biennale Foundation, pointed to the event’s scale and diversity. “The Biennale gathers over a thousand works by hundreds of artists from around the world. Our partnership with Royal Air Maroc shortens distances and fosters a model of collaboration among countries of the Global South,” she said.
