Bayer Leverkusen have reached a full agreement with Monaco for the transfer of Moroccan youngster Eliesse Ben Seghir.

According to Foot Mercato, the amount of the operation exceeds €30m, confirming the importance of the player on the European market, despite the last two seasons marked by inconsistency.

Ben Seghir, 20, broke through in 2022/23 and was regarded as one of Monaco’s most promising academy graduates. However, recurring injuries and internal tensions limited his impact in Ligue 1.

The attacking midfielder is now set for a new challenge in the Bundesliga, where the German club see him as a strategic addition for the future and replaces the departure of Florian Wirtz to Liverpool for a record transfer fee.

The move also carries weight for his international career. With the Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco in early 2025, Ben Seghir will be hoping for more playing time to strengthen his case with the national team.

Transfer specialist Florian Plettenberg confirmed the deal on social media. “Eliesse Ben Seghir to Leverkusen – DONE DEAL! Full agreement with Monaco following the prior verbal agreement with the 20 y/o promising left winger. The total transfer fee is €30m guaranteed plus add-ons. Contract until 2030. He will travel on Saturday or Sunday.”

Leverkusen, winners of the 2023/24 Bundesliga, will be competing on multiple fronts, including in the UEFA Champions League, and view the Morocco international as part of their long-term project.
