St Andrews – Morocco is in the middle of a promising boom of agricultural exports, with sweet corn emerging as the next significant export, thanks to recent favorable production and harvest seasons.

According to a report from East Fruit, and the Global Trade Tracker via Morocco’s Office des Changes, Moroccan sweet corn exports were over 21,800 tonnes in July through June. This showcases a 28% increase in sweet corn exports over the market year 2023/2024, and a 61% increase in the market year 2022/2023.

The over 20k tonnes of sweet corn export reigned in $20 million (MAD 200 million) for the North African country.

The numbers are promising and unprecedented, with Morocco notably overtaking Spain as one of the primary exporters of sweet corn to the European market.

The statistics are especially impressive given the numerous climate challenges Moroccan agricultural industries face. Despite serious drought, Morocco also recently became the second largest supplier to the EU.

Alongside success in sweet corn and watermelon exports, Morocco broke seasonal records in raspberry and asparagus exports.
