Rabat –  Cybersecurity has become synonymous with digital sovereignty and a key lever for economic growth, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration, Abdeltif Loudyi, said Monday in Rabat at the opening of the Regional Cyber Week.

“Investing in cybersecurity, as international experience proves, not only protects against risks but also generates tangible gains in business climate, investment attraction, consumption growth, and corporate competitiveness,” Loudyi stated.

He added that digital trust strengthens both citizens’ and companies’ confidence while supporting the transition toward a safe and sustainable digital economy.

Morocco’s digital transformation

Loudyi recalled Morocco’s “remarkable progress” in digital transformation over the past few years. These advances, he noted, boosted digital infrastructure and expanded public digital services, easing access for citizens and businesses while improving administrative performance.

Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah echoed these views, warning that the digital revolution, while transformative, has ushered in growing cybersecurity threats. The rise of AI, she said, has further complicated the sophistication of cyberattacks.

“Cybersecurity is not an option but an absolute necessity, essential for the strength of economies and the trust of citizens and partners,” Fettah said, calling for reinforced international cooperation, capacity-building, and solidarity in combating cybercrime.

Regional vulnerabilities

Minister Delegate for Digital Transition Amal El Fellah Seghrouchni underlined that cybersecurity is critical to restoring citizen trust, safeguarding sovereignty, and ensuring the continuity of public services.

She pointed to a sharp 236% surge in DDoS attacks on websites in the MENA region during the second quarter of 2025 as evidence of the urgency.

According to El Fellah Seghrouchni, cybersecurity influences institutional trust, the democratic quality of information exchange, and the country’s attractiveness for talent and partnerships.

“A trusted digital environment sends a strong signal: modernity is anchored in control, innovation in responsibility, and public performance in protecting people,” she said.

Regional Cyber Week

The Regional Cyber Week, held from September 15 to 19 in Rabat, is organized by Morocco’s General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI) in partnership with the Arab Regional Cybersecurity Center.

This year’s edition, themed “The Future of Cybersecurity: Digital Sovereignty for Sustainable Economic Development”, brings together government officials, experts, and private sector leaders from Morocco, the Arab world, and Africa to debate cyber-resilience in the era of emerging technologies.
