Rabat – The Moroccan Coalition of Human Rights Bodies issued an open call, urging the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to respond to evacuation demands from Moroccans stranded in Gaza.
In an open letter addressed to the foreign ministry, the coalition warned that dozens of Moroccans are living in inhumane conditions amid the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) genocidal war that is targeting tens of thousands of civilians in the region since October 2023.
The letter called on Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita to intervene amid the ongoing bombardment, killing, and threatening the lives of many, including Moroccan children, women, and the elderly.
“They are suffering in inhumane health and social conditions, threatened every second with killing, extermination, displacement, forced expulsion, starvation, thirst, disease, and death.”
For the coalition, Morocco’s government is responsible for protecting its citizens from the dangers that threaten them.
“We call on you to intervene swiftly to evacuate all Moroccans stranded in the Gaza Strip who wish to return to their country, in order to save their lives and alleviate their suffering after two years of killing, destruction, and loss of loved ones,” the letter said.
In a recent interview with Morocco World News (MWN), Hamed Mohamed Habbouch, a Moroccan citizen stranded in Gaza, called on the Moroccan government to repatriate him and his family.
“Our situation is extremely difficult and full of daily, physical, psychological, and material challenges,” Habbouch told MWN.
Habbouch lives in Gaza along with 25 other family members, including 13 children and eight women, as well as his elderly mother. The Moroccan citizen is a father of two sons, four daughters, and the grandfather of 11 children.
Habbouch said he reached out to the Moroccan embassy in Ramallah for help, but nobody responded to his calls.
His brother, Abdelkarim Habbouch, visited Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and handed the list of his stranded family in Gaza.
But according to Abdelkarim, the process is blocked due to a lack of cooperation from the Israeli side.
Habbouch’s pleas, along with dozens of others, grow more urgent by the hour, while Israel continues to perpetuate constant bombardment on everyone trying to seek refuge in Gaza.
