Rabat – Palestinians are flocking back to Gaza after Israel announced that it is withdrawing from parts of the region.

Palestinian news agency Wafa said thousands of displaced Palestinians are returning home as the ceasefire agreement came into effect today.

According to local sources, Palestinians started walking back to their homes, which were destroyed due to the genocidal war that started in October 2023 and lasted for two years.

The death toll from Israel’s genocide reached 67,211 civilians – mostly women and children. Injured victims are estimated at 169,961.

Germany today announced that it will co-host a reconstruction conference for Gaza alongside Egypt.

“We’re prepared to assume responsibility in the Council of Peace proposed by President Trump,” German Chancellor Friderich Merz said on Friday.

She added that Germany will continue to provide its support, announcing that the country will make €29 million available for humanitarian assistance.

US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas on Thursday. The agreement is part of the first phase of the US-brokered plan. The phase includes humanitarian aid, as well as Gaza’s reconstruction.

On Friday, UNICEF called for all crossings to be opened, allowing aid to enter the war-torn region.

“We risk seeing a massive spike in child deaths not only neonatal, but also infants, given their immune systems are more compromised than ever before, ” UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires said.

At least 50,000 children are at risk of acute malnutrition in Gaza. The children also need urgent treatment, with UNICEF warning that children have been living without proper food, or any food at all, for a long period.
