Rabat – Morocco’s youth-led GenZ212 movement has renewed its call for the immediate release of detained protesters, expressing “full and unconditional solidarity with all young people arrested for their peaceful defense of dignity and social justice.”
In a statement shared on Tuesday, the movement said, “The arrest of these young people will not silence the voice of this generation; it will only strengthen its determination to continue the peaceful struggle until real change is achieved.”
The statement follows reports of arbitrary arrests during recent demonstrations held in several Moroccan cities, as part of the group’s ongoing campaign calling for reforms in education, healthcare, and governance.
GenZ212, which has rapidly gained traction since its emergence earlier in September, insists that its actions remain peaceful and civic in nature, centered on what it calls “a generational demand for justice and accountability.”
The group’s members and supporters have organized nationwide sit-ins and marches over the past months, rallying behind slogans such as “Karama, Adala, Tanmiya”, dignity, justice, and development, to denounce corruption and social inequality.
The movement’s latest message also comes amid growing criticism from human rights organizations, which have voiced concern over the prosecution of activists and the shrinking space for peaceful expression.
“Arresting young people for expressing their opinions will not solve the crisis,” GenZ212 said, emphasizing that dialogue and reform, not repression, are the only way forward. “Our generation’s voice will not be silenced.”
The statement also comes after a temporary halt in GenZ212’s nationwide protests, which the movement said was a “pause for reflection and internal consultation” following weeks of sustained demonstrations across Morocco.
After what it called “responsible discussions and a broad internal vote,” the group recently announced its intention to resume peaceful rallies in most major cities on Saturday, October 18.
The renewed mobilization aims to “expand and diversify” protest forms, including boycotts and public campaigns, to sustain pressure for change while maintaining the peaceful nature of the movement.
