Rabat – Despite Girona FC’s difficult start to the 2025/26 LaLiga season, one bright star has stood out clearly: Azzedine Ounahi.

Azzedine Ounahi was named Girona FC’s Player of the Month for September 2025 – a well-deserved honor for the Moroccan star considering how he has ripped up the form guide so far this season.

The confirmation came straight from the club’s X account, a development that essentially rubberstamped what every Girona fan and observer had been saying during that stage: Azzedine is the one making the difference out in midfield.

Since joining from Olympique de Marseille at the end of August, Ounahi has rapidly become the heartbeat of Míchel Sánchez’s midfield operation.

His debut against Celta Vigo set the tone right from the start — calm under fire, precise with his passing, and a serious workhorse in the press.

And by the end of September, he’d already popped his Girona cherry with a well-timed finish against Athletic Bilbao. It was a beauty that showcased both his timing.

He’s picked up some serious applause from the Spanish media in the intervening period regularly getting picked for Team of the Week honours.

A deserved recognition for Ounahi

Girona’s fans and coaching staff have been singing the praises of Ounahi for bringing a bit of pizzazz and balance to the team. His ability to dictate the tempo and link up defence with attack has made him a key man in Girona’s set-up.

Coach Míchel has been full of praise for the player, saying “Ounahi is a difference-maker with the ball” and pinpointing his “intelligence on the pitch” as key strengths.

Winning the club’s Player of the Month prize this soon after arriving at the club is testament to just how quickly Azzedine Ounahi has adapted to La Liga and Girona’s dynamic style of play.

He already has lifted the team and helped keep Girona right up in contention at the top of the table.

With the momentum firmly on his side, Azzedine Ounahi’s early form suggests that September was simply the beginning of what could be a truly standout season in Catalonia.
