Rabat – Moroccan climber Hind Zemmama has done it again. She has summited Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya) in Indonesia. At 4,884 meters, it’s the highest peak in Oceania, and is considered one of the most technical of the Seven Summits  —  which are the tallest mountains on each continent.

This is what she has to say about it: “The moral side, positivity, and belief in God are the basic elements to overcome all the whole difficulties. I’m proud of my Moroccan identity as well as of my Moroccan passport that opens me the doors of respect and admiration everywhere I go.”

Her climbing represents determination, purpose, and the increasing visibility of women from Morocco in adventure and endurance sports.

Hind’s journey of courage and determination

Climbing Carstensz Pyramid is not an easy feat by any means. The route involves technical rock climbing on steep limestone faces, a Tyrolean traverse near the summit and a long approach through dense jungle.

Reaching base camp often requires a helicopter ride due to the mountain’s remote location. Unpredictable weather adds another challenge, testing every climber’s skills and endurance.

And this is a just part of a bigger climbing portfolio for Hind Zemmama. The Casablanca-born commercial director in Macao, mother and grandmother only started mountaineering 3 years ago, but her rise has been meteoric.

She started her climbing journey in 2022 by summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. In early 2024 she conquered Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest peak in South America. In the same year she summited Mount Elbrus in Russia, Europe’s highest mountain. And in May 2025 she stood on the top of the world  —  Mount Everest  —  proudly raising the Moroccan flag.

After successfully climbing Carstensz Pyramid, Hind is now one step closer to her goal of climbing the Seven Summits. She has climbed the highest mountain in Africa, South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. Denali in North America and Mount Vinson in Antarctica are both remaining.

Hind’s story is about bravery and tenacity to chase your dreams. She often references mental strength and spirituality in overcoming obstacles, and she lives to show this in every climb.
