Marrakech — The Moroccan artistic community has lost one its brightest stars today, with the passing of esteemed actor Abdelkader Moutaa.
A towering figure in Moroccan theater, cinema, and television, Moutaa left behind a rich artistic legacy that will remain etched in the memory of generations.
Filmmaker Ahmed Bouaroua announced the news, paying tribute to the late actor, stating, “Abdelkader Moutaa has departed… the voice that resembled the nation, the face that carried the honesty of humanity before portraying any character.”
In recent years, Moutaa had withdrawn from the public eye due to serious health challenges, including gradual loss of sight, which prevented him from participating in productions and festivals he once graced with his presence.
A pioneer of Moroccan drama, Moutaa contributed to the foundation of the nation’s performing arts scene, participating in numerous theatrical and television works that became part of Morocco’s cultural memory.
Known for his authentic performances, distinctive voice, and commanding on-screen presence, he captivated audiences across generations.
Among his most beloved roles was the character of Taher Belfryat, which cemented his place in the hearts of Moroccans and showcased his ability to connect deeply with viewers.
With his passing, Morocco loses not only a monumental talent but also a voice, face, and memory that will forever remain an integral part of the country’s artistic heritage.
