Rabat – Morocco’s national carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), has announced that it will launch a new direct air route between Casablanca and Russia’s Saint Petersburg.
The new flight will become operational starting January 2026, Royal Air Maroc said in a statement today.
RAM emphasized that the new air route aims to meet a growing demand for travel between the two countries for business, academic, and tourism purposes.
The opening of the new route represents a “strategic milestone for the national airline,” said Hamid Addou, Royal Air Maroc’s CEO.
“It strengthens our presence in Russia and reflects our commitment to connecting Morocco and the African continent to major global economic and cultural hubs,” Addou explained.
The new air route will operate three weekly flights between the two destinations. Departures from Casablanca will take place on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 11:10 p.m. Moroccan time. Arriving in Saint Petersburg will be at 6:55 a.m. the following day (local time).
Return flights, meanwhile, will depart Saint Petersburg on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 8:05 a.m., arriving in Casablanca at 11:45 a.m.
Royal Air Maroc said the new route complements the airline’s existing service to Russia, which already includes a daily flight between Casablanca and Moscow. It also recalled that Morocco attracts an increasing number of Russian visitors every year.
The launch of the new route comes as Morocco and Russia have recently announced their commitment to strengthening their bilateral relations across several fields.
Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita traveled to Moscow last week, meeting with his counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
During the meeting, the two ministers signed a memorandum establishing a Russian-Moroccan interdepartmental working committee aimed at deepening their strategic partnership.
This partnership was approved by King Mohammed VI and President Vladimir Putin in 2016, when the two leaders signed 16 agreements during the Moroccan monarch’s visit to Moscow.
“There are 188 agreements signed between the two countries across all fields, one of the richest legal frameworks Morocco has with any country,” Bourita stated during a press conference.
“Next year will mark ten years since the signing of the deep strategic partnership memorandum between the two countries,” he added.
