Rabat – FIFA has confirmed that Morocco will be the host for the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series 2025, a whole series of friendly women’s football matches set to kick off on October 26, 2025.

The original plan was to hold it in Dubai, but several Afghan players were facing visa issues that would have made it impossible for them to take part in the potential tournament in the UAE.

The decision to move the tournament from Dubai to Morocco was the only way to make sure that all the teams and players could play safely, which was especially important given all the logistical and political challenges they were facing. Morocco’s history of hosting major international events made it the ideal hosting destination due to their infrastructure and support.

This FIFA Unites: Women’s Series 2025 will also see the birth of a new team, “Afghan Women United,” which is composed of players who left their own country back in 2021 after the Taliban banned women from playing football.

This is also part of FIFA’s Action Plan for Afghan Women’s Football, which aims to provide support and an opportunity to play alongside some of the best players in the world for the women who have been forced to leave their own country.

A FIFA tournament that’s all about Inclusion

The team’s name, “Afghan Women United”, was actually chosen by the players themselves. These young women wanted to show that they’re a team, united and determined despite everything that’s been going on. And even though they can’t officially represent Afghanistan under FIFA, their presence will send a really powerful message about their strength, and the importance of being included.

The team from Afghanistan will be joined by teams from Chad and Libya, whose women’s teams will make  their debut in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking match..

It will also be major for Libya and Chad teams, as they both will be representing their countries for the first time on an international stage.

And that’s truly what the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series 2025 is all about. The strength of football to help bring people together. It’s about more than just competition, it’s also about letting millions of young girls back home know that they too can be involved and make a difference.

Details of the full schedule and venues will be released in the near future and all games will be made available across FIFA’s digital platforms.
