Rabat – The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Rabat hosted a commemorative event on Saturday to mark the fifth anniversary of the Second Karabakh War, bringing together diplomats, officials, and friends of Azerbaijan to celebrate the country’s Victory Day and its growing ties with Morocco.
Held at the Azerbaijani Residence, the ceremony gathered more than 150 participants, including cultural figures and representatives from Morocco’s diplomatic community.
The event, which coincided with the anniversary of Azerbaijan’s restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity following the 44-day conflict in 2020, featured a special piano concert by renowned Azerbaijani musician Eldeniz Alekberzadeh.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Morocco, Nazim Samadov, described the occasion as both solemn and celebratory. “Today marks the fifth anniversary of our victory in the Second Karabakh War,” he told Morocco World News (MWN).
The ambassador added that Victory Day, celebrated every November 8, remains one of Azerbaijan’s most meaningful national commemorations. “We are happy to share this day with our Moroccan friends, as Morocco and Azerbaijan continue to build strong relations based on mutual respect and friendship,” he said.
For pianist Eldeniz Alekberzadeh, who performed during the celebration, the evening was both memorable and personal. “Thank you for inviting me, it’s a great pleasure and honor to perform here,” he told MWN.
“It’s my first time in Morocco, and I find the culture incredible. Yesterday I concluded my participation in the competition named after Her Majesty Princess Lalla Meryem, and I am deeply thankful to everyone who supported me in this journey.”
Among the attendees was retired law professor Amina Jazouli, who spoke about the social and cultural bridges the Azerbaijani diplomatic community has fostered in Morocco. “This anniversary is not only a celebration of Azerbaijan’s independence and victory but also an opportunity for cultural exchange,” Jazouli said.
“His Excellency and his wife are very kind and caring; they have become like family to many of us. We share traditions, cook together, and invite each other into our homes. Moroccan people are open and generous, and these interactions strengthen our friendship.”
The event concluded with a reception featuring Azerbaijani and Moroccan delicacies, symbolizing the deepening ties between the two countries as they celebrate five years since the end of the Second Karabakh War.
