Rabat – Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Achraf Hakimi has suffered a severe sprain of his left ankle during the recent Champions League match against Bayern Munich, ruling him out for several weeks.
The injury occurred after a sliding challenge from Bayern’s Luis Díaz, which caused Hakimi to roll his ankle and leave the pitch visibly distressed. PSG described the injury as serious but noted that there was no full ligament rupture.
“Achraf Hakimi has severely sprained his left ankle, which will leave him unavailable for several weeks,” the club said in their medical update today.
Hakimi’s absence comes at a critical time, with the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 approaching in Morocco. The right-back is a key player for the national team, and his potential unavailability casts uncertainty over his participation in the tournament.
Fans expressed immediate concern on social media, with many criticizing Diaz for the tackle, while the broader football community shared sympathy for the Moroccan international.
PSG manager Luis Enrique acknowledged the setback, emphasizing the unfortunate nature of injuries in football and the need for calm amid a mounting fitness crisis in the squad.
The club said it will provide further medical updates following the international break, and attention will focus on how PSG will adjust tactically in Hakimi’s absence, especially that other key players, including Ousmane Dembélé, also suffer from an injury.
Meanwhile, his potential absence from the AFCON represents a major challenge for Morocco, as the team looks to compete on home soil without one of its key defenders and attacking outlets.
Hakimi, who turned 27 yesterday, will now focus on rehabilitation to return to full fitness and regain momentum after contributing significantly to PSG’s recent successes.
