Rabat – Real Betis host Lyon today in their fourth UEFA Europa League group-stage game. The Andalusians currently have five points from three matches, after a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, a 2-0 victory over Ludogorets Razgrad, and a 0-0 stalemate against Genk

Lyon have a perfect nine points, having opened with a 1-0 win over Utrecht, followed by 2-0 wins against Red Bull Salzburg and Basel.

A win for Real Betis would greatly strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout phase, while Lyon can take a big step toward qualification by avoiding defeat.

Real Betis Team News

Real Betis will face Lyon in the Europa League without several key players:

  • Isco is still out with a leg injury.
  • Junior Firpo has a hamstring problem.
  • Ricardo Rodriguez is doubtful after picking up a leg injury against Mallorca.
  • Goalkeeper Pau López is sidelined with a foot tendon injury, so Álvaro Valles will start again.
  • Marc Bartra is back from injury and strengthens the defense.

In attack, Betis will count on speed and creativity from the wings:

  • Antony has 5 goals and 2 assists in 9 games.
  • Abde Ezzalzouli, with 3 goals in 7 La Liga matches, will be a threat from the left.
  • Cucho Hernández is expected to lead the attack, with Giovani Lo Celso playing behind him.

Betis Predicted line up: Valles; Bellerín, Bartra, Gómez, Ruibal; Amrabat, Fornals; Antony, Lo Celso, Abde Ezzalzouli; Cucho Hernández

Lyon Team News

Lyon will be missing several key players for their Europa League match in Seville:

  • Orel Mangala and Ernest Nuamah are out with knee injuries.
  • Malick Fofana is sidelined with an ankle sprain.
  • Tanner Tessmann is doubtful after picking up an injury against Brest.

Coach Paulo Fonseca is expected to keep his usual attacking setup:

  • Dominik Greif will start in goal.
  • The defense may include Abner Vinicius, Moussa Niakhaté, and Clinton Mata.
  • Martin Satriano should lead the attack, with Pavel Šulc playing behind him.
  • Captain Corentin Tolisso will anchor the midfield.
  • Hans Hateboer and Abner Vinicius are available despite recent red cards in domestic play, which don’t apply in Europe.

Lyon Predicted lineup: Greif; Maitland-Niles, Mata, Niakhaté, Abner Vinicius; Tyler Morton, William Carvalho; Afonso Moreira, Corentin Tolisso, Pavel Šulc; Martin Satriano

What to Expect

Real Betis will look to control the game at home by keeping possession and pressing high. They’ve lost just once in their last 11 matches and have scored 10 goals in their last two games, 7-1 in the Copa del Rey and 3-0 in La Liga.

Even without Isco, their attack is working well, with Ezzalzouli and Antony creating chances from the wings. With strong home support, Betis are confident they can break down Lyon’s defense.

Lyon comes in with a perfect Europa League record, five goals scored, and none conceded. Coach Paulo Fonseca is likely to set up a compact defense and rely on counterattacks through players like Moreira and Šulc. Discipline could be a concern, as Lyon had two red cards in their last two Ligue 1 games.

This is only the third time Betis and Lyon have met in a competitive match. In the 2013–14 Europa League, Lyon won 1-0 at home and drew 0-0 in Seville.

With both teams chasing qualification, the match is expected to be tight. Betis’ strong form and home advantage make them slight favorites.

Safe Bets

  • Both Teams to Score: Yes – Betis scored in 13 of 15 games; Lyon in 13 of 14.
  • Over 2.5 Goals: Likely – Betis scored 10 goals in their last two games; Lyon also attacks well.
  • Ez Abde to Score or Assist: Yes – He has 3 goals in 7 league matches and is in good form.
  • Real Betis to Win: Yes.

Final score prediction: Real Betis 2-1 Lyon.
