The Moroccan futsal team reached the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games final in Riyadh but ultimately lost with a heavy 5–0 against by Iran. The Atlas lions finished an impressive but ultimately second runners-up in the tournament. As the reigning African champions, Morocco showed off their level throughout the competition, making a good case for why they’re one of the best futsal teams on the continent.
Morocco got off to a flyer in the group stage, pulled out a 2–2 draw against Iran in their opening match, a team that’s one of the top futsal nations in the world. The Atlas Lions then went on to crush Tajikistan 7–1. They finished off their group stage campaign with a 4–0 clobbering of Afghanistan, which sealed their place in the semi-finals.

In the knockout stage, Morocco took on the host nation, Saudi Arabia. The Atlas Lions continued to show off their scoring prowess, picking up a 6–3 win and booking themselves a spot in the final against an old foe: Iran. Going into the final, they had already had a taste of the Iranian team in the group stage when they’d managed to draw 2–2 with them. Alas, that final proved to be a step too far – the Iranian team was just too good and overpowered the Atlas Lions with a 5–0 win, snatching the gold medal for themselves.
While it was disappointing that Morocco couldn’t get the top spot, the team’s overall performance was still impressive. They had some dominant wins which was proof of their growing influence on the international futsal scene.
