Israeli Media Say Morocco Officially Resumes Flights with Israel on Thursday

Following the reported reopening, many Moroccans voiced on social media that it betrays the Palestinian cause and delegitimizes the genocide in Gaza.

Rabat – Israeli media have reported that, for the first time since October 7, 2023,  Morocco is set to allow Israeli visitors to enter the country again and to reopen direct flights from Israel starting Thursday.

“Morocco, a signatory to the Abraham Accords, will be the first Muslim country to permit flights from Israel since the war began,” Israeli National News reported, quoting Israel’s Channel 12.

The Israeli news claim that Morocco and Israel have reached what is described as “advanced talks” to restore direct air links. One report states that an official from Israel’s Transportation Ministry indicated cooperation with Morocco’s counterpart in preparing for the resumption of routes.

However, no official announcement has been released by either ministry about the resumption of flights or any accompanying protocols and conditions.

Morocco and Israel formally normalized relations in December 2020 under the Abraham Accords framework. As part of that process, direct flights and tourism links were opened.

The genocide in Gaza led to a shutdown of those links, with both countries’ airlines suspending direct connections and Israeli advisories warning against non‑essential travel to Morocco.

In the wake of the reported reopening, several Moroccans took to social media to express their anger at the move, with many saying it is a betrayal of the Palestinian cause and their longstanding public solidarity with Gaza, especially in light of Israeli genocide against Palestinians.

“Zionists are not welcome in Morocco,” one social media user said.

Another commentator said, “The resumption of flights with the criminal entity is a betrayal and a stab in the heart of the homeland… and the price will be high.”

Others stated that Morocco should not resume flights with “child murderers,” referring to the tens of thousands of Palestinian children Israeli Occupation Forces have killed in Gaza.
