Rabat – Morocco’s General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration has announced the launch of a new “Excellence Bachelor’s Degree in Cinema and Reintegration Humanities” for inmates who already hold a DEUG diploma or an equivalent qualification.
The program is being offered in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra, and will start in the 2025/2026 academic year.
The new degree aims to support inmates’ academic and professional reintegration after release by giving them access to a specialized university pathway. It will provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in cinema and audiovisual professions, including directing, scriptwriting, filming, and image production techniques.
Courses will take place inside a dedicated university space created at the local prison of Sale to allow students to follow in-person classes while remaining in detention. In a joint statement, the institutions described this educational experience as “unique and unprecedented” at the continental and regional levels, because it combines strong academic quality with tailored, in-prison pedagogical support.
According to the statement, the program is part of broader efforts to make education a key pillar of reintegration. In recent years, the prison administration has expanded literacy programs, vocational training, and cultural activities to help inmates prepare for life after release.
The partners also announced that the new cinema track is expected to expand in the future to include a master’s degree, giving inmates the chance to pursue even higher studies.
Pre-registration is open from November 14 to 30, through a dedicated digital platform, under the supervision of a pedagogical committee from the Faculty of Languages, Arts and Humanities at Ibn Tofail University. Applicants will be selected according to national academic criteria.
