Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has denied the authenticity of a video circulating on social media that shows a man, who appears to be a teacher, violently assaulting a child in what appears to be a classroom.
The clip was shared with claims that the incident occurred inside a Moroccan school, causing concern among many social media users.
The DGSN released a statement saying that its specialized units conducted a thorough review of all available data. Their investigation confirmed that no complaint, report, or alert related to such an act has been filed anywhere in the country.
This lack of evidence prompted authorities to look deeper into the origin of the footage, added the statement.
Based on technical checks and comparisons, the DGSN determined that the video is not linked to Morocco at all. Instead, it depicts a crime that took place in an Asian country and had previously been widely covered by local media there.
The security agency warned that circulating false information of this kind can seriously undermine citizens’ sense of safety and create unnecessary fear.
The DGSN added that investigations are still underway to identify those responsible for spreading the rumor, as well as the motives behind it.
Authorities urged the public to verify information before sharing it online and to rely on official sources when sensitive content appears on social media.
