Mohammedia – Morocco’s fast-evolving artificial intelligence landscape is set to mark a new milestone with the launch of the Women in AI (WAI) Morocco chapter.

The inaugural Women in AI Morocco Summit will take place on December 5 at Technopark Casablanca, bringing together leading voices from technology, research, entrepreneurship, and the public sector for a national dialogue on the ethical and inclusive development of AI.

The event represents the official introduction of WAI Morocco, which was established earlier this year and aims to position the country as a regional leader in responsible AI.

The summit will gather global representatives from the Women in AI network, senior government officials, and prominent Moroccan figures working at the frontlines of AI innovation.

Its opening ceremony will be led by Her Excellency Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition.

She will be followed by welcoming remarks from Lamiae Benmakhlouf, General Director of Technopark Casablanca, and an address by Dr. Sofia Ghacham, Ambassador of WAI Morocco.

Leaders from the international Women in AI community—representing the global, African, and Middle Eastern branches—will also share perspectives on strengthening cross-regional collaboration.

The summit’s agenda includes a keynote speech by Dr. Kaoutar El Maghraoui, Principal Research Scientist and Manager at IBM in New York, followed by panel discussions exploring Morocco’s AI vision, industrial transformation, and regional partnerships.

A strategic partnership signing ceremony and extensive networking opportunities are also planned throughout the day.

Building an inclusive and ethical AI ecosystem

Women in AI Morocco was founded in May 2025 as part of the global Women in AI NGO, which operates in more than 140 countries.

The chapter aims to support Morocco’s digital transformation by fostering women’s leadership and promoting responsible, human-centered AI development.

The organization’s mission is rooted in three pillars: expanding access to mentorship and education, nurturing local talent through specialized programs, and encouraging ethical, impact-driven innovation.

Its leadership team includes professionals and researchers across AI governance, education, communication, community building, and innovation strategy.

An advisory board of national and international experts guides the chapter’s long-term development.

WAI Morocco’s first year includes a series of initiatives designed to strengthen the country’s AI ecosystem. These include skill-building workshops, webinars, a community podcast, and the launch of WAI Campus Affiliates across Moroccan universities.

The chapter will also roll out its WAI4Good Hackathon, a program aimed at mobilizing young innovators around social-impact challenges.

Additional collaborations include the Back to Inspire Diaspora Mentorship Program and WAI Africa Connect, which brings together representatives from African WAI chapters to reinforce regional cooperation.

The organization’s work focuses on three priority sectors:

  • Education, where AI tools can help close the skills gap and prepare the next generation of digital talent.
  • Healthcare, where emerging technologies can improve diagnostics and expand access to care.
  • Sustainability, leveraging AI to support environmental resilience, including water management, energy optimization, and agriculture.

As the first annual gathering of its kind, the Women in AI Morocco Summit is expected to become a central meeting point for industry leaders, researchers, investors, and young professionals shaping the future of artificial intelligence in the country.
