Rabat – A freight train slightly derailed early yesterday morning, around 1:45 a.m., causing a temporary disruption in train services between Tangier and Sidi Kacem.
According to the National Railway Office (ONCF), train number M16806 “had to stop after a minor derailment” between Tangier-Mghougha and Dalya.
While the derailment was minor and did not result in major damage or injuries, it affected the schedule of passenger trains on this route, the office stated.
The ONCF confirmed that all available technical and human resources are being mobilized to restore normal train services as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, the railway office is providing buses to transport passengers along the affected section to ensure that travel is not completely halted.
Train services on other routes across the country remain normal. The ONCF added that the safety of passengers is a top priority and that the situation is under control.
Train services are important for communities in this region. Many people rely on trains daily to get to work, school, or other essential activities. For students, commuters, and workers alike, delays or disruptions can have a significant impact on their schedules and daily routines.
In addition, train connections in the Tangier-Sidi Kacem corridor are especially important because they link smaller towns to larger cities, allowing people to access jobs, education, and services that would otherwise be difficult to reach.
