Agadir – Saudi Arabia’s king Salman and the crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman conveyed their condolences to King Mohammed VI and all the victims of the devastating floods in the Moroccan coastal city of Safi.
In an official statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the sincere condolences and sympathy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the kingdom of Morocco following the floods in the city of Safi.”
The Ministry affirms the kingdom’s solidarity with the kingdom of Morocco, its government and people in this painful incident, extending its condolences to the families of the victims and “wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.”
According to the Moroccan authorities, at least 37 people are dead and around 14 people were hospitalized, including some in critical condition. In addition to serious material damages, in which around 70 homes and commercial shops in Safi’s old city were flooded, about 10 vehicles were swept away and several roads and transport routes were damaged or cut off.
As a response to the alarming situation, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Education in Safi announced the suspension of classes, aiming to ensure the safety of students and the staff.
The local authorities continue their efforts to search for possible missing persons as well as launching field interventions to secure affected areas and prevent further risks.
