Agadir – Moroccan healthcare group Akdital has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire majority shares in Awwad Albishri Hospital, located in the heart of Mecca, marking its second expansion move in Saudi Arabia.

The acquisition remains subject to regulatory and operational conditions expected to be finalized in the coming weeks. The deal follows Akdital’s earlier purchase of Al Mishari Hospital in Riyadh, now operating as Akdital Riyadh Olaya.

Awwad Albishri Hospital has operated for two years and established itself as a reference healthcare facility in the holy city.

The 120-bed establishment offers multidisciplinary medical services, including cardiology, interventional cardiology, and general surgery. The hospital features an intensive care unit and a complete radiology department.

The facility’s central location provides strategic positioning in a territory with high patient traffic and specific healthcare needs driven by urban density and seasonal pilgrim influx.

This acquisition forms part of Akdital’s development program in the Gulf region, particularly Saudi Arabia.

The group aims to contribute to the kingdom’s healthcare sector transformation by strengthening hospital offerings, elevating care quality standards, and modernizing health infrastructure within existing regulatory frameworks.

The operation represents another step in Akdital’s gradual Saudi Arabia deployment. The group plans $1.4 billion in investment with 1,000 beds by 2030, confirming its long-term commitment to the regional healthcare ecosystem through controlled growth and high-level care services.

Akdital leads Morocco’s private healthcare sector with 4,111 beds across 41 establishments in 24 cities. The group employs nearly 10,000 healthcare professionals.

Listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange in December 2022 under the symbol AKT, Akdital continues expanding its network domestically and internationally.

The Mecca acquisition reinforces Akdital’s strategy to establish a lasting presence in Saudi Arabia’s healthcare landscape.

The group seeks to support the Arab country’s healthcare modernization efforts as it gears up for the 2034 World Cup while maintaining its commitment to quality patient care and professional excellence.
