Rabat – Twenty-four teams focused on one goal—this is how Morocco’s AFCON opening ceremony kicked off tonight.

The 30-minute ceremony opened with a light, elegant show marked by colorful and vibrant visuals that reflected Africa’s rich diversity and deep football legacy.

The performance began with calm, expressive music blending African rhythms with Moroccan sounds, highlighting the country’s culture and heritage.

A central figure appeared holding a football-shaped map, moving across the stadium to the rhythm of Morocco, including Amazigh music.

He was joined by performers carrying lamps emitting white light, forming a carefully choreographed sequence that filled the pitch.

The ground itself became a stunning visual inspired by Morocco’s zellige and traditional handicrafts. In the background, the visuals emphasized Morocco’s identity and heritage, showcasing elements of its history, culture, education, and everyday life, alongside iconic landscapes from Fez, Casablanca, and Marrakech.

A notable moment of the ceremony was the display of Allah Ya Moulana, a legacy from Nass El Ghiwane – a famous Moroccan band.

The ceremony marked music shows, featuring big names like French Montana, Davido, L’Artiste, and Jaylane.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe welcomed the fans with an enthusiastic “Assalamu Aliakum.”

He thanked King Mohammed VI, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, the Moroccan government, the Moroccan people, and Morocco’s FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa for their efforts and for their love of football, for Africa, and African people.

He concluded his remarks by announcing the launch of the tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino also saluted and celebrated Morocco, Africa, and the world during his speech.

“Welcome to my country, Morocco. A country of football, passion, and peace, I would like to thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI for welcoming us in this great country and for uniting Africa and the world.”

The FIFA chief further extended his greetings and good luck wishes to  all of the 24 national teams participating in this AFCON.

For Infantino, this tournament will be the best in history.

“For Tonight, let’s go to Comoros. Dima Maghreb, [forever, Morocco],” he concluded.
