Rabat – Morocco’s regional education directorates have announced the suspension of more classes across the country.
Inzegane Ait Melleloul regional directorate announced that it decided to suspend classes on Friday and Saturday due to inclement weather following the weather office alert, forecasting heavy rain and snowfall in many provinces across the country.
In a notice to schools’ administrative staff, the regional directorate in the region called on schools to manage communication with all concerned parties to maintain continuous coordination with the directorate services and local authorities to respond to any development.
The provincial directorate in Taroudant issued a similar notice, emphasizing that classes will be suspended on Friday and Saturday in all educational institutions across the province.
The decision was made to ensure the safety of students as well as administrative staff from risks posed by severe weather conditions, the notice said.
The regional directorates in Agadir, Ida-Outanane, and Essaouira will also suspend classes on Friday and Saturday across all public and private educational institutions.
On Thursday, Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology announced that heavy rain, snowfall, and strong winds will hit several provinces through Saturday.
Rainfall between 80 to 120 millimeters is expected in the provinces of Agadir, Ida-Outanane, Taroudant, and Essaouira from Friday at 5 p.m. to Saturday at 6 p.m.
Heavy rainfall between 30 and 45 millimeters is also expected during the same period in the provinces of Safi, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Chtouka Ait Baha, Inzegane, Ait Melloul, and Tiznit, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, and Youssoufia.
Snowfall of 10 to 30 centimeters above 1,600 meters will affect several regions, including Midelt, Tinghir, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Taroudant, and Chichaoua.
