Rabat- Several regions of Morocco will face difficult weather conditions from Sunday through Tuesday, as snow, heavy rain, low temperatures, and strong winds affect both mountainous and coastal areas, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
The weather agency issued an orange-level alert, warning that high-altitude provinces may see substantial snowfall over the coming days.
In Al Haouz, Azilal, and Ouarzazate, snow depths could reach 50 to 90 centimeters at elevations above 1,300 meters, a level likely to affect roads and access to remote communities.
Other central and northern provinces will also see snowfall. The DGM expects 30 to 50 centimeters of snow in areas such as Midelt, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Ifrane, Khenifra, Sefrou, Boulemane, Taza, Guercif, Al Hoceima, Chichaoua, and Taroudant.
Lighter but still notable snowfall, estimated between 10 and 30 centimeters, may reach provinces including Figuig, Jerada, Errachidia, Taourirt, El Hajeb, Chefchaouen, Tiznit, Chtouka Ait Baha, Oujda, and Driouech, starting at 1,200 meters.
Rainfall will exacerbate the challenging conditions, particularly in the northern and eastern regions. The DGM forecasts 30 to 40 millimeters of rain, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, in Fahs-Anjra, M’diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, and Driouech on Sunday afternoon and evening.
Similar rainfall is expected on Monday morning in Nador, Berkane, and Oujda.
A sharp drop in temperatures will accompany these conditions. Several provinces, especially in inland and mountainous zones, may record temperatures between minus 9 and minus 3 degrees Celsius.
The cold weather is expected in Tinghir, Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Guercif, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, Khenifra, Fes, Al Haouz, and Figuig.
Strong winds will also sweep through southern and Saharan provinces. Gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour may affect Tata, Tiznit, Taroudant, Sidi Ifni, Tan-Tan, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, Tarfaya, and Es-Smara on Sunday, with similar conditions expected on Monday in Figuig, Sidi Ifni, and Guelmim.
Authorities advise caution, particularly for travelers and residents in high-altitude and exposed areas, as this weather system may disrupt transport and daily routines over the next few days.
