Rabat – Senegal Higher Education Minister Daouda Ngom discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in higher education with his Moroccan counterpart, Azzedine El Midaoui, today in Rabat.
Ngom is part of a delegation that arrived today to take part in the Morocco-Senegal 15th joint commission.
During a meeting on the sidelines of the commission, both ministers expressed satisfaction with friendship and cooperation covering all sectors, including education.
The two countries also expressed their determination to reinforce their partnership through exchanging expertise and strengthening collaboration between universities and research institutions.
Senegal and Morocco also aim to facilitate exchanges for students, academic researchers, and administrative staff.
In the talks on future opportunities in the sector, El Midaoui cited that around 702 Moroccan students are studying in Senegal. Meanwhile, 1,639 Senegalese students are pursuing their education in Morocco.
El Midaoui said that the relationship between the two countries is a reflection of Morocco’s steadfast commitment to openness and cooperation with fellow African countries as part of a strategic partnership led by King Mohammed VI and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
For his part, Ngom also stressed the importance of bilateral ties between the two countries, stating that they continue to grow, particularly in higher education.
He said Morocco hosts the largest Senegalese student community in Africa, expressing his country’s ambition to benefit from Morocco’s experience in the fields of scientific research, vocational training, and engineering schools, among other fields.
Alongside Ngom, Senegal Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko also arrived in Rabat today for an official visit as part of the joint commission, where he was received by Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.
