Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2026 in Turkiye is expected to fall on Friday, March 20, according to the country’s official holiday calendar and projections based on the Islamic lunar calendar.
The eve of the holiday, known locally as “Arife”, will likely take place on Thursday, March 19, while the Eid celebrations, called Ramazan Bayramı in Turkish, are expected to continue until March 22.
However, as with all Islamic holidays, the exact date is traditionally confirmed through the sighting of the crescent moon by religious authorities, including the Presidency of Religious Affairs.
Eid Al Fitr is one of the most important religious celebrations for Muslims around the world. The holiday marks the end of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims fast from dawn until sunset as an act of worship, spiritual reflection, and self-discipline.
The festival begins with a special congregational prayer performed in mosques or open spaces on the morning of Eid, followed by gatherings with family and friends and acts of charity to ensure everyone can share in the celebration.
Eid Al Fitr is widely known as “Şeker Bayramı,” or the “Sugar Festival,” in Turkiye, highlighting the tradition of giving sweets to children and guests.
Families visit relatives, exchange greetings, and serve traditional desserts such as baklava, güllaç, and chocolates during festive gatherings. Children often receive small gifts or money, and it is common for younger people to visit elders to show respect and receive blessings.
The holiday is also a national public break across the country, with many businesses and institutions closing for several days. Cities and towns across Turkiye come alive with family reunions, festive meals, and community celebrations.
