Rabat – Dubai International airport (DXB), the world’s busiest airport for international traffic, came under attack earlier today as a drone hit a fuel depot, igniting a fire in the vicinity. Flights were suspended after the Dubai Media office released a post on X confirming a “drone incident in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport which affected one of the fuel tanks.”
The Dubai Media Office later stated that civil defence teams had “successfully contained the fire resulting from impact to one of the fuel tanks in the vicinity,” adding that no injuries have been reported.
Following the attack, Emirates announced on X that they “expect to operate a limited schedule after 10:00 hrs Dubai local time today,” with some flights from Monday’s schedule being temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure. Dozens other flights were diverted or cancelled, with some flights landing at Al Maktoum International Airport.
This attack marks the fourth drone-related strike to occur at Dubai International Airport; each attack has caused disruptions to flight operations and airport schedules. Similar attacks have also occurred elsewhere in the United Arab Emirates including two drone strikes in Fujairah that resulted in a fire breaking out in an industrial zone and at the Fujairah oil hub, a key energy infrastructure site along the Gulf of Oman.
Since the war began on February 28, the UAE has reportedly intercepted or responded to more than 1,800 missile and drone attacks launched by Iran and allied groups, making the UAE one of the most targeted countries in the rapidly widening regional conflict. Officials say that the UAE is currently focused on the protections of its civilians and critical infrastructure while working to prevent the spread of war across the region. A senior Emirati official has indicated that “the UAE wants the Iranian aggression against non-combatant Gulf states to end immediately.”
