Rabat – Many countries, especially in the Gulf region, have announced Friday as Eid Al Fitr 2026, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait.
Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committee announced the crescent was invisible today, and therefore confirmed that Eid Al Fitr will be on March 20.
Other countries followed suit and also announced March 20 as the end of Ramadan, including Kuwait and the UAE.
Eid Al Fitr marks the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar, which ends a month-long period of fasting from dawn to sunset.
Morocco has yet to announce the date of Eid Al Fitr, but have announced that they will conduct the crescent moon sighting on Thursday.
Ramadan in Morocco started on February 19. The majority of other countries, especially across the Gulf, celebrated the first day of Ramadan on February 18. With the Eid announcement, these countries will round out 30 days of Ramadan.Â
Celebrations begin with morning prayers at mosques.
Following the prayers, Muslims gather for breakfast in the morning for the first time in a month of fasting.
Sweets are the centerpiece of meals served during this special meal.Â
Beyond food, Muslims, particularly children, uniquely celebrate the feast by wearing new clothes.
In Morocco, girls wear kaftans and boys wear new djellabas or both choose new brand clothes to celebrate the feast.
