Rabat – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed to Morocco world news that the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has filed an appeal against the decision that awarded Morocco victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
CAS said it had officially registered the appeal, which challenges a March 17 ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The ruling declared Senegal to have forfeited the final, recording Morocco as 3-0 winners of the match in accordance with articles 82 and 84 of CAF regulations.
The FSF is now seeking to overturn CAF’s ruling and be recognized as the tournament’s “legitimate winner.”
It has also asked for a temporary suspension of procedural deadlines, arguing that the full reasoning behind CAF’s decision has not yet been properly communicated.
In its statement confirming Senegal’s appeal, CAS suggested that CAF issued its initial ruling without detailed grounds.
Next steps in the process
CAS further confirmed that it will soon appoint an arbitral panel to handle the case. Once established, the panel will set a timetable for the proceedings.
Under standard rules, Senegal would have 20 days to submit its full appeal, while CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) would then have an additional 20 days to respond.
However, given the request to pause deadlines, CAS said it is too early to establish a clear timeline or indicate when a hearing might take place.
The court is equipped to handle such disputes and will aim to move the process forward as efficiently as possible while ensuring fairness for all parties involved, reassured CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb.
For now, CAF’s decision stands, meaning Morocco remains the official winner of the 2025 AFCON.
