Agadir – Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin, Inspector of the Royal Moroccan Navy, met with French Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, in Paris on Tuesday to discuss the expansion of bilateral military cooperation and maritime security.

The talks brought together senior naval officials from both countries to review ongoing coordination and outline future collaboration in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

Admiral Vaujour described the relationship between the two navies as an “already solid partnership,” adding that it is “built on trust and regular cooperation,” in a statement shared on X.

Operational synergy

The talks covered a wide range of joint missions and shared strategies. French officials noted that both navies are committed to working together to contribute to global maritime security, a high priority along the strategic routes linking Europe and Africa.

The meeting also reviews Morocco’s recent participation in ORION 26, a large-scale, multi-domain joint military exercise led by France.

The drills, involving thousands of personnel from various allied nations, aim to strengthen readiness for high-intensity and unconventional conflicts.

“The integration of the Royal Moroccan Navy into the ORION26 joint exercise is the most recent example,” Vaujour said, adding that the shared objective is “to enhance our ability to operate together.”

The meeting in Paris forms part of Morocco’s strategy to expand high-level defense cooperation and to strengthen its military capabilities.

Last year, the Royal Navy conducted a two-week joint exercise with the US Navy at the Port of Casablanca, focused on port security and hydrographic surveying.

The training included underwater facility inspections and technical mapping of the Casablanca coastline, further solidifying Morocco’s position as a key partner in international maritime safety.

The Paris meeting reflects defense ties between Rabat and Paris amid evolving and often unpredictable regional security challenges.

Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) are engaging in international training and adopting global tactics to modernize their capabilities in line  with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) standards.
