Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe hails Africa’s 10-nation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a landmark achievement in the history of the continent’s football.
For the first time, Africa will be represented by 10 teams at the global tournament, marking a major increase from previous editions.
This expansion reflects the revised structure of the tournament and the growing strength and competitiveness of African football on the world stage.
Motsepe considered this as evidence of steady progress across the continent, noting the advancements achieved by African national teams in recent years.
“This is a recognition of the growth and global competitiveness of African football. We are confident our teams will make us proud, and we believe an African nation can lift the World Cup,” Motsepe said.
The expanded qualification slots are part of broader reforms introduced for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will feature more participating nations than ever before.
Africa is one of the biggest beneficiaries of this new format, gaining extra slots that allow greater representation on football’s global stage.
