Agadir – Diesel costs are set to rise by approximately MAD 1per liter starting on April 16. The adjustment will bring diesel prices in some areas in Morocco from around MAD 14.50 to roughly MAD 15.50 per liter, while gasoline prices are expected to remain stable at about MAD 15.50 per liter.

This latest increase followed a continued trend in rising fuel costs observed since the outbreak of recent geopolitical tensions which affect the global energy markets.

Diesel prices in Morocco have surged by more than MAD 4.70 per liter over this period, while gasoline has recorded an increase of approximately MAD 3 per liter.

In a statement shared with Morocco World News, a worker at a gas station spoke of being deeply alarmed by the current situation, saying that these prices are disturbing and complicate daily activities.

“We were thinking before about if we can afford a car, but now we are thinking about if we can afford fuel,” the worker said.

The source further pointed out the effect of these prices on goods and services, as transport expenses constitute a major component of supply chains. As well as intensifying pressure on household purchasing power which is already strained by broader inflationary dynamics.

In response to the recent remarks by Energy Transition Minister Laila Benali regarding the financial support package of approximately MAD 1.6 billion to support citizens, the observer questioned the application of this measure, claiming that no changes have been made so far.

“We know of the recent support from the government but still nothing changed,” they told MWN.

The ongoing instability is due to ongoing geopolitical tension in the Middle East, which has profoundly unsettled the global energy market. Benali pointed to the current global energy state, saying that its impact is exceeding any previous crisis.
