There was a time when Marseille saw Bilal Nadir as one of the most exciting youngsters to keep an eye on. But that charm seems to be fading away. The 22 year old Franco-Moroccan is going through a rough path, with everything pointing towards his exit from the French club next summer.

The midfielder came in July 2023 from OGC Nice’s academy, and he showed real quality that caught the eye at the Vélodrome. But things were never consistent for him. He suffered from a serious knee injury, and he has since not really managed to get back into shape.

This season reflects that struggle perfectly. Under Roberto De Zerbi, his role has become limited, but since Habib Beye took over, his presence has almost disappeared completely.

His numbers say it all. Nadir played 19 league games but only a total of 557 minutes. For a player trying to establish himself, that’s simply not enough.

And it’s gotten even worse lately. Nadir wasn’t even included in the squad against Lyon, Auxerre, or Toulouse. Since February 20, he has only stepped onto the pitch for four minutes in Ligue 1. At this point, it’s hard to see a way back for him at the club.

With his contract expiring in June and no real improvements regarding his situation, leaving on a free transfer now seems closer than ever. Despite it all, there’s still interest from clubs in Spain, England, and France.

Because the ability is still there. Nadir has that technical touch with an elite vision; he is at core. the kind of player you don’t see as much nowadays.

While Marseille are focused on securing a top-three finish and a qualification to the Champions League, Nadir is already looking ahead. This summer won’t just be about a move, it could define his whole career.
