Casablanca — Morocco will take part in the African Week organized by UNESCO from May 19-22, with a wide-ranging program that blends policy discussions with cultural expression.

Led by the Africa Group within UNESCO, this year’s edition focuses on access to water and sanitation under the theme “Ensuring sustainable availability of water and safe sanitation systems to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063.” The topic reflects ongoing pressure on water resources across the continent and the need for long-term solutions.

According to Morocco’s permanent delegation to UNESCO, the country will be involved in several high-level panels and thematic meetings. These discussions will look at water management, sanitation, and broader challenges tied to sustainable resource use in Africa.

Morocco will also take part in more informal spaces like the youth forum, exhibitions, and the African book fair, where it plans to present national initiatives.

Cultural presence is also part of the strategy. Moroccan participation will extend to artistic and creative events, including a fashion show and other performances scheduled throughout the week.

UNESCO describes this year’s edition as a dense program bringing together conferences, civil society meetings, cinema, gastronomy, and a gala event. The aim is to create a space where cultural expression meets development issues, especially those affecting young people.

African Week has become a regular fixture at UNESCO, offering member states a platform to showcase both policy priorities and cultural identity. Previous editions have often mixed debates on development with exhibitions and performances, drawing diplomats, researchers, artists, and students into the same space.
