Rabat – Arsenal moved closer to the Premier League title after Manchester City dropped points in a dramatic 3‑3 draw with Everton on Monday night.
For much of the game, City looked comfortable. Jeremy Doku’s first‑half strike gave them a deserved lead, and Pep Guardiola’s side seemed on course for another routine win. But the match turned in 13 chaotic minutes.
Marc Guehi’s mistake gifted Thierno Barry the equalizer, Jake O’Brien added a second, and Barry struck again to make it 3-1. Suddenly, City were staring at defeat.
Erling Haaland pulled one back late, and Doku rescued a point with a 97th‑minute equalizer.
The Gunners now sit five points clear with three games left. Even if City win their game in hand against Crystal Palace, Arsenal will still hold a two‑point cushion and a superior goal difference.
Mikel Arteta’s side showed composure in their 3‑0 win over Fulham at the weekend, a performance that eased pressure after weeks of tension.
Arsenal have not lifted the league trophy in 22 years, but this season they are closer than ever.
Unlike past seasons dominated by flawless runs from City or Liverpool, this race has been unpredictable. Both Arsenal and City have shown weaknesses. Arsenal froze against Bournemouth earlier in the campaign, while City collapsed at Everton.
That vulnerability makes the run‑in compelling. Each side is capable of winning out, but equally capable of slipping.
Pressure shifts
Guardiola admitted after the draw that the title is “not in our hands” anymore. The pressure now rests firmly on Arsenal, who face West Ham next.
On paper, it should be straightforward. West Ham are in the bottom three after losing 3‑0 to Brentford. But in this season, nothing is guaranteed.
City, meanwhile, face Brentford. Since January, their only defeat has come against Real Madrid in Europe, but lapses like Monday’s show they are not untouchable.
