Agadir – Karim Zidane, Morocco’s Minister for Investment and Evaluation of Public Policies, held talks on Monday with Ghana’s Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation.
The meeting spoke to the strong and longstanding ties between Morocco and Ghana while building on the momentum generated by the 2017 Royal Visit to Ghana, widely seen as a turning point in bilateral relations, Zidane argued.
“Our meeting builds on the momentum of the 2017 Royal Visit, which marked a turning point in bilateral relations and laid the foundation for a dynamic and strategic partnership,” the minister said.
Both sides emphasized ongoing reforms aimed at improving the business climate in their respective countries.
Moroccan officials highlighted the implementation of the new Investment Charter, while Ghana pointed to its recently introduced GIPA Bill 2026 as part of efforts to attract and facilitate foreign investment.
The discussions also welcomed the growing presence of Moroccan companies operating in Ghana, describing it as a sign of mutual confidence and the complementarity of the two economies. Investment was identified as a central pillar of cooperation between the two nations.
Officials further pointed to promising opportunities across key sectors, including renewable energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and finance. These areas are expected to drive future collaboration and discover new avenues for economic growth.
“Our discussions also underscored significant opportunities in sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and finance and reiterated our shared ambition to elevate Moroccan-Ghanaian cooperation into a model of inter-African partnership, promoting sustainable growth and a win-win approach within the framework of the AfCFTA,” Zidane explained.
The Secretary of State to the Minister of Trade in charge of Foreign Trade, Omar Hejira, also received Ghana’s Minister Ofosu-Adjari, during her working visit to Morocco.
The discussions centered on strengthening foreign trade relations between the two countries, expanding bilateral exchanges, and consolidating industrial cooperation.
Both sides also emphasized the need to accelerate the operationalization of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAf), highlighting it as a key lever for boosting South-South cooperation and advancing economic and industrial integration in line with Morocco’s strategic orientations.
“Ghana and Morocco have had a long-standing relationship. We have a bit of trade, agribusiness and investment, but this is time to escalate it to another level because Ghana is doing so well. Morocco has what it takes to partner Ghana to move to the next level,” Ofosu-Adjari said.
“We extend our appreciation to the minister and his team. We are not only meeting him, he has also graciously put together a series of activities, meeting the private sector, meeting the people of industry, to make sure that this visit is very purposeful.”
